TransAmerica Tour
June 4, 2010The TransAmerica Tour requires physical exertion, planning and focus, all of which were attributes Jim possessed in abundance. Therefore this is a most fitting and lasting memorial to a tremendously gifted and generous friend whose life was all too brief. The scourge of cancer either has or soon will touch everyone's life in a very personal way. Ride For Jim has come to resonate with many across the country who want to honor their own "Jim or Jan" by donating or participating in our Ride For Jim events. For them it has become the "Ride for Him or Ride for Her".
The route taken for the first two TransAmerica tours follows the classic Adventure Cycling Bikecentennial Route 76 from Astoria, Oregon to Yorktown, Virginia covering 4,000 miles. In 2008 it took Jack Haar, supported by his son Philip, 60 days averaging 70 miles per day. In the summer of 2009, Charley Nottingham along with fellow cyclist Larry Bickford completed the journey in 47 days averaging 100 miles per day.
