Jack is a professor of Anatomy at the Medical College of Virginia. So not only has he performed research in immunology for nearly forty years (!) but he is also an avid squash player and cyclist. He began cycling seriously three years ago and has now completed the Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) twice, the Ride Across Virginia three times, and the Ride Across Ohio twice.
Hungry for a new adventure, Dr. Haar has ordered a rack and a set of touring bags for the trans-America ride. This has been a life-long dream of his, and the underlying mission will serve as great motivation for him and the rest of the team.
Philip Haar

(This is not the bicycle I am riding across America!)
Philip is a second-year MBA student at Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management. Before returning for business school, he served as a pilot in the Air Force.
Philip is excited about combining his passion for the outdoors with his concern for the pressing need for increased funding for medical research. In the summer of 2006 he finished his first long distance ride biking across Iowa, and in 2007 he hiked across the continental divide in Wyoming's Wind River mountains with just a 25 pound pack and running shoes.
Don Shubert

Don has been a long distance cyclist for decades. His many bicycling achievements include a cross-country ride and many shorter (but grueling!) rides in every part of the country. Also, he has run the Boston Marathon twice.
Davis Massey

Davis is a staff pathologist at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Department of Pathology where he teaches, and reviews histopathology. He has been cycling for several years and will join the RideForJim team until it reaches Missoula, Montana. There, exhausted, he will fly home to Richmond, Virginia.
Nancy Haar

Nancy is the wife of Jack and the mother of Philip. She is the most ardent supporter of the 'Ride for Jim' and plans to pace the team for the first four days of riding starting in Astoria, Oregon. She has contributed countless hours to the planning process and behind the scenes logistics.
